Life hacks: taking meds abroad

1. Sleep

Try and get a good night’s sleep before you travel.

2. Timezones

Make sure you figure out the time difference(s) of your journey and know how this impacts you taking your meds before you go. Or you could keep your phone/watch on UK time to help. Use the alarm app for reminders to take your meds.

3. Hand luggage

Have your medication on you when flying and pack it in your hand luggage. Just in case your hold luggage gets lost.

4. Translated prescriptions

Have an up-to-date prescription and note from your doctor. Think about having these translated into the language(s) of the countries you’re landing in.

5. Take a pill box

Take a 7-day pill box in your suitcase and fill it up when you arrive. This will help keep you on track taking your meds.

6. Be prepared for delays

Always take a little extra. You never know if you’ll lose some meds along the way or be delayed and need an extra dose or two so be prepared.

7. Original boxes

Don’t open new boxes until you need to. Keep the boxes with their original labels.

8. Be organised

Be organised and there’ll be no need to panic!
