This Christmas, we invite you to join us in making a difference in the lives of children and young people with epilepsy. At Young Epilepsy, we believe that every child and young person has the right to access information that meets their needs and supports them in managing their health and wellbeing.
Our mission is to develop easy-to-use, accessible, relevant, and evidence-based information that can help reduce health inequalities and improve health outcomes. By providing children and young people with the right information, we empower them to take control of their health and lead fulfilling lives.
Importance of Tailored Information
Clinical guidelines from NICE and SIGN emphasise the importance of providing tailored information to children and young people with health conditions. Our goal is to ensure that the information we provide is not only accurate but also engaging and easy to understand. We know that young people with epilepsy have unique needs, and we are committed to meeting those needs with the highest quality resources.
Bridging the Information Gap
Research shows that young people and their carers often turn to the internet for health information. However, they frequently encounter a lack of useful, reliable resources. At Young Epilepsy, we aim to fill this gap by offering comprehensive, trustworthy information that addresses the specific concerns of young people with epilepsy and their families.
Ensuring No Parent Faces Fear Alone
No parent should have to face that fear alone. This Christmas, you can ensure they don’t have to. Your support can make a big impact. One donation, twice the impact! The Big Give is the UK’s biggest match funding campaign. Every donation you make will be DOUBLED between the 3rd and 10th December. Your donation will help ensure children and young people diagnosed with epilepsy get the vital support they need when they need it most.
Nicole's Story
The moment you’re told your child has epilepsy, the world suddenly feels uncertain, and your heart fills with fear. What does this mean for their future? How will they cope? You desperately seek answers, but they’re hard to find. Trusted information and guidance are essential for newly diagnosed children, young people, and their families. Your support will enable the design and development of new resources so that no child or young person feels alone when they receive their diagnosis.

Making a Big Impact
For families like Nicole’s, your support means everything. Your donation today will help children with epilepsy. Your support will help to deliver bite-sized information about epilepsy, diagnosis, and living with the condition. This will help to support self-management and confidence, reducing the fear a diagnosis can bring. Nicole adds, “Everything I do now is because of Solomon. I want to stop the seizures. But I can’t. So I try to help with the triggers. If I can help him to understand what triggers his seizures, we can avoid it as best we can. Four years ago, if I could have started to work on the triggers, we probably would have had fewer seizures. It won’t get rid of them but it will lessen them. Having information would have made a massive difference”.
No Family Alone After Diagnosis
No family should be left alone after a diagnosis. Nicole shares her experience:
When Solomon was diagnosed with epilepsy, I felt so anxious and helpless. It was like one of my worst fears had been realized. From that moment I started watching him like a hawk. We were given a leaflet and then just left by ourselves. I couldn’t sleep. I was scared that Solomon would have a seizure and die in the night.Solomon's mum, Nicole
You search for things online and you don’t know what you’re looking at, whether it can be trusted or not. More needs to be done to share information about different types of epilepsy and the things that can occur after a seizure.
I know first-hand what it’s like to have a child receive a diagnosis of epilepsy. Please make a donation today to help other families like mine, get the support they need when they need it most.Solomon's mum, Nicole
